We're pretty sure can do it for under $5,000. No solid plan yet. All volunteers are, of course, welcome.

Black Rock Gazette?
Wed, April 13, 2005 - 9:30 PMSomething about BRB forebodes ominously. “Be right back”, for those who instant message, often takes longer than expected… going idle for an interminable wait, logged off, never to reappear again. I hope that's not our future.
Since the LLC has been using the as yet unregistered trademark “Black Rock Gazette”, they have the legal rights. (Durg, correct me if Nevada trademark law differs.) The argument M2, as original copyright holder back in 1992, could grant it to Borg2 makes no sense: copyrights apply to specific works of creation, each distinct issue or edition. Rather than let the trademark go dormant, when in 5(?) years it comes up for grabs, what chance have we of getting it from them now as a gift to the community?
As a well-known name, brand and trademark, even outside Black Rock City and Burning Man, “Black Rock Gazette” is a valuable asset, more now than later. Simply to abandon it without trying seems irrational.
Or maybe i've attached too much sentimentality to the name? Anyone else feel the same? -

Re: Black Rock Gazette?
Wed, April 13, 2005 - 10:36 PMI say BRG needs to be ground into playa dust. Check this John (from last night):
*****************************
I have been informed that control of the BRG has NOT been relinquished by B1.
One issue of the BRG will be produced for the 2005 event, which will
be included with the information packet handed to arriving
participants.
The original copyright permission will not be transferred to any other entity.
-M2
.

So it is not up for use... and I say a new name is in order.

Re: Black Rock Gazette?
Wed, April 13, 2005 - 11:34 PMYes, thank you, Tony, i read that. Because M2 fails to distinguish between copyright and trademark, more than a mere legal technicality, i think possibilities for accommodation and negotiation remain, especially among those who know. I'd hate to see opportunities fail to appear due to misinformation and misunderstanding.
