The problem's with their provider, and the BM tech crew have, I gather, been extremely frustrated to have no way to assist. <br/> <br/>So, no e-mail and no website. <div>OK, it's that time of year again when a boy's Winter thoughts turn to budget proposals and on playa presence. <br/> <br/>As most of you know, our spatial benefactor for the last coupla years has been Media Mecca. The Ops guru of Media Mecca was RonJon, who no longer will be in that capacity. I don't even know who will be heading up that team. Actually, there are a lot of teams that are experienceing shake-ups from the top. <br/> <br/>I'm not sure I want to wait to find out who will be heading up Media Mecca to begin to plan the BRG. The Org's gotta put us on the grid. They can't force us to squat on someone else's plat. We have the ability to make our own theme area. But I can't do it alone. And there are pros and cons. <br/> <br/>To make it happen, we would need a theme camp manager. I'm starting here, but may widen this out to the brg-announce, and even e-playa. However, I'd like to see if there is anybody already in the group that could take on this very important, and hardly journalism-drive role. That role being: <br/> <br/>Help create a plat map <br/>Develop/Implement a Leave No Trace Strategy <br/>Be a hands on individual for set up and clean up <br/>Assist in recruiting others for on=playa theme camp management <br/> <br/>We've all been pretty independent in the past - making our own meals, bringing our own shelter, whatnot. I do not envision being able to come up with a common kitchen, or such, though the limit would be the energy and creativity of the theme camp manager. <br/> <br/>I'm a hands on person, and I'm sure I'll be there from soup to nuts (and I am sure it will get nuts). The biggest downside I forsee is if we don't pull it off and leave a mess, they're not going to let this gypsy band of journalists operate with the same management team ever again. Everybody, seemingly, gets the chance to try (and fail or succeed) at least once. <br/> <br/>There will be financial and logistic resources available through the ORG. If we ask early enough, they will build our benches, and provide us with the materials necesary for a shade structure(s). I know how to orde production trailers and whatnot, so the physical plant will be delivered - our blank canvas upon which we would paint another masterpiece. <br/> <br/>I'm willing to work closely with whoever wants to pick up this mantle, but I'd also just like to get general thoughts/impressions from the group about whether we believe this is viable. <br/> <br/>After being shunted into the trailer corrall last year, I personally would like to see us back out in the sunshine. Separate from the delegated/chartered role of the paper, a camp might meet the needs of some staffers, like those who inevitably work late on production, or those who can barely wake in time for our now 10am daily staff meetings. Durgy suggested space behind Media Mecca or Playa Info, across the street from Mutant Vehicle parking, and noted, near 6 o'clock ave, it's dusty and noisy. But that's also close to Center Camp and Commissary. If you have eats, just add room to get board plan. <br/> <br/>If camp lands close to work, and news is your calling, you can get to work fast, but work can get to you fast too. <br/> <br/>Working and living together could get incestuous. Maybe you're into that, but your business then becomes our business. In the news business, that's fodder for the mill. No wonder /People/ has such a large weekly circulation. Those who need less privacy might not mind. <br/> <br/>Without electronic communications, living close to the hub keeps you in the loop.
